The Princely Collections hold around 1,600 paintings, with masterpieces from the early Renaissance to the Austrian Romantic era. Besides outstanding paintings and sculptures the Princely Collections also possess important holdings of drawings and engravings, pietra dura objects, enamels, ivories, decorative weapons, porcelain, tapestries and furniture. Many of these can be seen in the two Viennese palaces in the Rossau quarter and the centre of the city.

Beyond their permanent presence in Vienna the Princely Collections are represented with changing temporary exhibitions in Austria and abroad. Monographic exhibitions in Europe (Milan, Antwerp, Moscow, Prague), in the USA (New York) and Asia (Singapore, China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan) have strengthened the Collections’ reputation in recent years. Moreover, selected objects from the Collections have regularly appeared as loans in prestigious exhibition projects at museums all over the world.

Permanent Presentation at the Liechtenstein Garden Palace

Located in Vienna’s 9th municipal district, the Garden Palace with its Sala terrena, the Hercules Hall, the former Ladies' and Gentlemen's Apartments (which today house the Historical Library) and the galleries provide an ideal setting for works of art from the early Renaissance to the High Baroque.

Permanent Presentation at the Liechtenstein City Palace

The Liechtenstein City Palace on Bankgasse is where the history of the Collections, the story of the palace’s construction and the history of the family merge, giving an authentic impression of the world in which the Princely House lived and amassed its collection. Selected works from the neoclassical and Biedermeier eras perfectly complement the historic ambience with its original furnishings and décor.
