Der Blindensturz

The copy of the famous painting of “The Parable of the Blind Leading the Blind” from 1568 with its fine depiction of a Netherlandish village in the background, relates to an original which is today part of the former Farnese Collection in the Museo di Capodimonte in Naples. There are a total of eight extant copies of this famous work from Bruegel’s late oeuvre. The masterly copy in the Princely Collections, virtually identical to the original, was executed by Lucas van Valckenborch, who could well have seen the original by Bruegel in Brussels.
