Teapot with silver mounts
Du Paquier Manufactory, Vienna (1718–1744)
c. 1720/25
this site may contain automatically translated textThe early Vienna teapot with moulded reliefs of flowering prunus sprigs and a frog finial was inspired by plain blanc de Chine porcelain from around 1700. Any remaining indication that the spout had sagged in the firing and come away from the body is elegantly concealed by the silver mount. But enhancing porcelain with mounts is also symptomatic of the euphoria and high regard for the material typical of Vienna porcelain’s initial experimental phase.
