The Venetian artist Antonio Bellucci executed more than forty allegorical ceiling paintings for the Liechtenstein City Palace on Bankgasse. Painted on canvas, the pictures were set into stucco frames made by Santino Bussi. The “Allegory of Sculpture” shows the sculptor at work on the statue of a river god, while the female sculpture in the background, personifying Nature, astonishes the beholders with its realism.
