In the nineteenth century most of the paintings by Bellucci were removed from the City Palace to the Garden Palace, where they have ever since graced many of the ceilings on the two upper floors. Until 1819, the ceiling lunette “Allegory of Painting” flanked the large central ceiling painting in the ceremonial hall of the City Palace on Bankgasse, together with the depictions of Sculpture and Music and three other lunettes. In this picture the personification of Painting is being instructed by the personification of Disegno (Drawing), while a putto holds her brushes.
