ANDREA POZZO'S CEILING FRESCO IN THE HERCULES HALL
The iconographic programme of the ceiling fresco showing the apotheosis of the Greek hero Hercules can be understood as an allegorical self-representation of the prince. The scene of Hercules being admitted to Olympus is accompanied by a multitude of deities depicted hovering in groups in the pantheon. The soaring trompe l’oeil architecture accommodates scenes from the life and exploits of Hercules.
